Car Tech: Mitsubishi RVR

My Kingfisher Blue Mitsubishi RVR in top of the line GT AWD livery was waiting for me at Gabriel Mitsubishi in Dollard des Ormeaux on the first warm day of spring. The bright spring sun pouring through the panoramic glass roof made me forgiving of the fact this perky little crossover has limited tech.

The Rockford Fosgate Punch Premium Sound System features AM/FM/Sirius radio with RDS and a 6CD/MP3 player.

In the centre console there is a USB plug for iPod or memory stick with voice control. It worked well and I found it to be a really cool feature. There is also RCA plugs in the console for other music players.

The Bluetooth voice dial system controlled by buttons on the steering wheel worked really well..it downloaded the phonebook from my HTC Desire in seconds and accurately recognized my voice commands. In fact my only complaint is the help system came on line rather quickly if you hesitated after pushing the button..then you have to wait for the instructions to finish before issuing your command. The sound system also features A2DP Bluetooth stereo as well as hands free calling, the music from my phone pumped though the 710 watt 9 speaker..including 10″ sub woofer..sound system sounded great.

In the instrument cluster there is an information display that shows trip information, kilometers to the next refill and a live fuel consumption meter..the numbers probably aren’t too accurate but it is a good indicator if you are being too heavy footed on the gas pedal.

Overall this is a fun little SUV to drive and the tech while limited, is well executed.
