If you are a bit of a geek like me you have missed the availablity of Google Voice in Canada. The idea of one number to direct calls to all of your phones..cell and landline has so far been an unrequited desire for Canadians.
San Francisco based startup TellFi is aiming its service at small businesses but anyone can lock up a number to use its virtual phone service for a year. 100 free calling minutes are included..additional minutes are $0.058. All you have to do is go to TellFi.ca select free service and sign up for a Canadian phone number..I was able to get a 514 number but there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of them available so I would move quickly.
Once you have selected your number, you will be able to Customize your VoiceMail message, select phone numbers to which calls should be forwarded..it will connect the call to the first one that answers. You can also set up 2 extensions to control where the calls are forwarded.
The VoiceMail system is handy..it forwards a text version of the voice mail to your email address with an MP3 attachment..Interestingly it had trouble recognizing TellFi.
Give it a try..what do you have to lose? Let me know what you think.
